Deutsche Schule Bilbao is a German school serving ages 1 to 18 with a bespoke curriculum from Krippe to Oberstufe. The Abitur is awarded here, and there is an Abitur-to-Spanish-equivalency table to facilitate Spanish university access. The school follows a continuous language concept across five languages—German (C2), English (C1), Basque (B2), French (B1) and Spanish—supported by a holistic pedagogy that develops study habits, personality and teamwork. The campus spans 33,000 square metres of surroundings near Basílica de Begoña and is connected by Line 3 of the metro. Language courses, MINT initiatives and a Sprachkonzept anchor the academic framework, with enrollment year-round. Founded in 1917, the school celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017 and was awarded Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule in 2022. A modern building with a rooftop terrace opened in 2022, and a Sportcampus opened in 2025. European exchange is central to life here, reinforced by a student government and extracurriculars.

Krippe day runs 8:00–14:00 with the following blocks: 8:00–9:00 arrival; 9:00–9:15 morning circle; 9:15–9:30 light breakfast; 9:30–11:45 free play/structured activities/outdoor time; 11:45–12:15 lunch; 12:30–14:00 nap/quiet time; 14:00 onward, free time; pickup according to the chosen schedule.
There is a school bus service with multiple stops at different locations. The first stop has a fixed departure time, while the others have estimated departure times. Education runs from the first day of kindergarten through the Abitur. Our methods are holistic and tailored to age and needs, using a repertoire of techniques to strengthen personality and teamwork. There is an equivalence table converting Abitur grades to the Spanish system to ensure access to Spanish universities. Kindergarten through upper secondary follow a continuous language concept; we teach five languages: German (C2), English (C1), Basque (B2), French (B1) and Spanish. The curriculum includes humanities, arts, science and technology, with a focus on developing learning methods and a disciplined work ethic to prepare students for higher education and a pluralistic society.
Abitur is the university entrance qualification, and Abitur grades are converted to the Spanish grading system via an equivalence table to access Spanish universities. The diplomas are officially approved by the Basque Government. The Bund-Länder inspections have awarded the school the 'Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule' status in 2009, 2014 and 2022.
Graduates typically pursue university studies in Germany or Spain. Through multilingual proficiency and scientific literacy, they gain access to higher education opportunities in both countries.
