Introduction

Miras International School Astana is a private school in Kazakhstan offering Baccalaureate continuum: PYP, MYP and DP, for students aged 3 to 18. Opened in 1999, it was Kazakhstan's first school authorized for all IB continuums and it maintains graduates enrolling at top universities. The teaching staff comes from more than 10 countries, with many teachers experienced as international examiners. The campus includes a Music School offering a five‑year program in piano, dombra, violin and vocal studies, plus a Music Studio and an Early Musical Development group. The Centre for Harmonics runs after‑school arts and sports activities, including Dance, Painting, Football, Taekwondo, Basketball, Chess, Breakdance and Robotics, with language classes for primary students. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

PSPE is embedded in the school educational programme and supports students in personal growth and in forming a socially active personality with a healthy lifestyle. The programme aims to develop in-demand skills, a sense of responsibility for actions, and the ability to make informed choices in real-life contexts. It is organized around three strands: Self-determination and interactions in society; Active life stance and healthy lifestyle; Interaction with the world. PSPE is implemented across all stages from pre-school to higher level, through curricular and extracurricular activities, Service as Action, Creativity, Activity, Service, a psycho-pedagogical support programme, whole-school events, assemblies, sports and intellectual competitions, and inclusive programs.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The Learning Support Center upholds inclusion and supports students with diverse learning needs to achieve their highest potential while celebrating their unique strengths. It provides three key support programmes: Psychological support, Learning service, and SEN students support. Psychological support offers consultation, counseling, assessment, and program development to support personal, social, and educational development from Pre-school to 11/DP2. Learning service provides in-school and after-school assistance with homework, quizzes, projects, and study skills, including ATL skill development. SEN students support follows the Inclusion/Learning Support Requirements Policy and Procedures, aims to ensure access to a differentiated curriculum, early identification of needs, development of individual development plans, parental engagement, and systematic monitoring of progress.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The Diploma Programme is taught in English. Entrance tests for Grades 5–12 include testing in Russian, mathematics and English.

Mental Wellbeing

Psychological support is provided by the Learning Support Center to support the personal, social, and educational development of all students from Pre-school to 11/DP2. The Psychological Support Programme includes consultation, counseling, assessment, and programme development, delivered as a comprehensive continuum of services coordinated with teachers, administrators, speech therapists, medical staff, and other school personnel.

Safeguarding

A safe educational environment is a priority. The school adheres to child protection recommendations, maintains high recruitment standards with focus on safeguarding, and promotes safe behaviour in various contexts. Safety requirements are annually verified by state agencies and CIS. Measures cover accident and emergency preparedness, protection from internal and external threats, safety rules and training, collaboration with external organizations, health and nutrition oversight, psychological and pedagogical support, and anti-bullying and anti-terrorism efforts.

Admissions

Step 1. Complete an application form. Submit an application by calling, emailing, or sending a WhatsApp message. In response, information about the school is provided and a school tour is booked. The initial contact introduces enrollment options and programs. This step begins the admissions process. Step 2. Come for a school tour. The tour allows families to see the atmosphere and facilities firsthand. Staff describe the school's programs and show the classroom where the child will study. The visit helps assess fit before moving to testing. Step 3. Entrance test. Entrance test is required to determine readiness for the program. Kindergarten involves a conversation with a psychologist, a speech therapist, and a preschool education coordinator. Grade 0-1 involves a conversation with a psychologist, a speech therapist, and a primary school teacher. Grades 2-4 involve testing in Russian and mathematics, while Grades 5-12 involve testing in Russian, mathematics, and English. Step 4. Collect admission documents. Families are asked to gather the necessary documents to complete registration. The documents are collected to finalize enrollment and to proceed with formalities. This step ensures the enrollment process can move forward. Step 5. Conclude an agreement. All documents are collected and the contract is signed. Payment is made to finalize enrollment. Completion of the contract and payment confirms the child's enrollment at Miras International School. The process ends with the student officially enrolled.

Scholarships

The school runs an annual competitive scholarships/grants program for Grades 10-11 and the IB Diploma Programme. Grants are awarded based on academic performance and involvement in the school's community life. Discounts for winners can be substantial, including up to 50% for some new students and up to 100% for others. A call for grant applications is issued each year to invite eligible students to apply.
