The Independent School of Jakarta delivers the English National Curriculum from Early Years through A Levels within a British independent school framework. The curriculum is structured into Early Years Foundation Stage, Pre-Prep, Prep School, Senior School (GCSEs), and Sixth Form (A-Levels). Bahasa Indonesia is taught at every stage and Indonesian language, history, and culture are woven throughout the curriculum; additional languages are incorporated as part of the broader study. The school follows the English National Curriculum as a framework—providing clear progression while allowing teacher flexibility—emphasising breadth across English, Mathematics, Sciences, Languages, Humanities, the Arts, Computing, and Physical Education. Academic outcomes show ISJ pupils consistently perform in the top 10% of international schools worldwide in standardised assessments, with Year 7 results including English SAS around 122, Mathematics SAS around 118.7, and Science SAS around 119.7, among other metrics.

In Early Years, class sizes are capped at 15 with three adults per room and a staff ratio of 1:5. From Year 1 onwards, typical primary class sizes are up to 20 with two adults per class, and older pupils are taught in small groups by subject specialists.

GCSEs are taken at the end of Year 11 and A-Levels at the end of Year 13. ISJ pupils consistently perform in the top 10% of international schools worldwide on standardised assessments, supported by GL Assessment results (e.g., Year 7: English SAS 122, Mathematics SAS 118.7, Science SAS 119.7; Reading 113.1; Spelling 116.7).

ISJ provides careful guidance on subject choices, assessment expectations, and applications for UK boarding schools, international schools, or universities, supporting progression to the next stage of education.

1. Entry to ISJ is non-selective for Pre-Nursery, Nursery, and Reception. Admission to Year 1 and above is by assessment. Applications can be submitted up to two years in advance. 2. Visit the School. Prospective families are encouraged to visit ISJ before applying. Tours allow viewing the campus, meeting staff, observing lessons, and asking questions about curriculum, pastoral care, and school life. Tours are arranged on weekdays during term time. 3. Submit Application. Complete and return the Application Form along with the required documents. The Application Fee is IDR 4,680,000 and must be paid for the application to be processed. Applications can be submitted up to two years in advance. The school reviews the submission and begins processing once the fee is paid. 4. Assessment. For pupils applying to Year 1 and above, age-appropriate entrance assessments are conducted to understand academic readiness, learning potential, and personal qualities such as curiosity and focus. Assessments are conducted in a relaxed, supportive environment, either individually or in small groups. Entry to Pre-Nursery, Nursery, and Reception is non-selective. 5. Admissions Decision. Following assessment, the family is notified of the decision in writing. If a place is offered, an Offer Letter and details of next steps, including payment of the Enrolment Deposit to secure the place, are provided. Upon enrolment confirmation, a Welcome Pack with term dates, schedules, key contacts, and information about the child's class teacher and form group is issued.

Global Continuity Bursary: Financial assistance, bursaries and scholarships for expatriate families in Jakarta. The Global Continuity Bursary maintains a diverse international community and is designed for families on Local-Plus contracts, the self-employed, or those privately funding their children's education. Eligibility includes expatriate status (at least one parent/guardian holds a non-Indonesian passport and a valid KITAS), demonstrated need (tuition fees paid privately without a full employer education allowance), academic standing (meets ISJ's standard admissions requirements and participates in school life), and Global Trajectory (preference for families requiring a British curriculum). The assessment is means-tested and considers gross household income and liquid assets, the proportion of net income required to pay full fees, relocation expenses, local cost of living, and the number of ISJ enrolled siblings. Terms include confidentiality, typically a one-year award with annual review, and that the award applies to Annual Tuition Fees only (not Capital Levy, uniforms, transport, or optional trips unless stated). Ki Hajar Dewantara Scholarship: Supporting access for Indonesian families. Named for Ki Hajar Dewantara, the scholarship aims to widen access by Indonesian citizens who demonstrate high academic potential but lack financial means. Award can be up to 100% fee relief (limited places each year). Selection is based on assessment and academic review, and is means-tested according to family financial circumstances.
